Country Dancing
Scottish Country Dancing has been the traditional social dancing of Scotland for more than 200 years. Dancers move to the driving strains of reels, jigs and strathspeys. There are several groups active in the Triangle area, and each has dancers available for performances throughout the year. Classes meet several times a week in various locations. See the Raleigh Scottish Country Dancers website at http://home.roadrunner.com/~rscd/ or the Durham-Chapel Hill Scottish Country Dance group’s website at http://www.ibiblio.org/scottish-dance/ for more information.

Highland Dancing |
|
Triangle Highland dancers are ranked
among the best in the nation. There
are several schools of Scottish Dance in the Triangle.
Highland Dance is a competitive, athletic form of folk
dance for males and females of all ages. |
| One of the strengths of the Highland dance presence in this area has been the cooperation and joint efforts of all the teachers in the area. All the local teachers are part of a network which works to improve Highland dancing for all local dancers rather than just those of the teacher’s own school. To exemplify this atmosphere of cooperation, the teachers have adopted the phrase Scottish Dancers of the Triangle, meant to include all of the schools and students in the area. For more information, get in touch with any of the SCOT Contacts listed above. |
